The floor image is taken from a familiar online tourism shot of a well-known London landmark. I pulled it wide, slipped sections out of register, and cut it into fragments, so it starts to behave like a monument that can’t hold itself together. As the edits accumulate, the image loses its grand, elevated charge.

On top of this ground I placed a snare drum. From inside the shell, a faux fox tail emerges and begins to move, striking up and down. I think of foxes as animals that keep to cover, threading through shadows and skirting the edges; they are even less likely to appear loudly within a royal zone. The fox points to a way of getting through crisis: staying nimble, finding openings, continuing on. It carries a post-apocalyptic kind of optimism, no heroic promise, just persistence built from small gestures and bodily trickery, a method for living in a world that is steadily becoming harder to inhabit. The tail’s comic bounce cuts into the scene with a flippant rhythm, like a badly timed joke, needling at the arrangements and hierarchies that once looked secure.
